FUNDRES Final event held on 17 November 2021 at EPFL in Lausanne

On 17 November 2021, the final event of the Shift2Rail JU-funded IP3 FUNDRES Project took place at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).

FUNDRES (FUture UNified DC Railway Electrification System) is a €0,75 million project led by LAPLACE (Laboratory of plasma and conversion of energy, University of Toulouse, France) in collaboration with three other European partners from Italy, Switzerland and France, namely: the Polytechnic University of Milan (Politecnico di Milano – POLIMI), the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne – EPFL) and the International Union of Railways (UIC). It will end in November 2021.

Drazen Dujic, WP2 leader for EPFL and Philippe Ladoux, FUNDRES Project coordinator for LAPLACE welcomed the participants from companies, such as Hitachi Energy, ABB Switzerland Ltd., CAF TE and SNCF Réseau .

Sebastien Denis, Programme manager at the Shift2Rail-JU, presented the successor programme of the Shift2Rail-JU, namely Europe’s Rail. The presentation of the results achieved by the 3 technical Work Packages, was followed by the visit of the Power Electronics Laboratory at EPFL with a demo of the digital twin and the MMC prototype. The event ended with a round table moderated by Philippe Ladoux.
